GMO Internet, a Tokyo-listed technology company that provides internet services, announced on 31 May that it will be launching new app “CryptoChips by GMO” that facilitates distributing cryptocurrencies to gamers.
At the beginning of commencement, CryptoChips will be collaborating with Bitcoin, allowing gamers to obtain the coins as “secret pocket money” by fulfilling certain game missions and attaining specific rankings. In order to receive the remunerations, the players are required to possess cryptocurrency wallets beforehand.
This first initiative commences in August in “Whimsical War”, a real-time territorial battle game developed by GMO. Available on both IOS and Android, the game allows players to receive Bitcoin remunerations directly from GMO instead of mining.
Meanwhile, in other news, GMO will also be launching the world’s first 7nm mining chip machine on 6 June, with mass production and shipping to takeoff by October.
In the future, GMO plans to include rival games and other coins in its project. Through its effort to promote digital wallets and coins via the new app, the tech giants wishes to encourage the general public to become more intimate with cryptocurrencies.
GMO Internet has been actively supporting the cryptocurrency business since last year. It first launched cryptocurrency trading and cryptocurrency FX in May 2017 and a mining venture in December last year. In February 2018, GMO’s partners have been receiving a fraction of their income through Bitcoin. GMO will be expanding its cryptocurrency business further in the future.
This will not be the first time that Bitcoin has collaborated with mobile apps. In May, Bitcoin partnered up with freemium game The Simpsons: Tapped Out to provide exposure for the cryptocurrency.
