With blockchain technology taking over the globe, Asian messaging application provider, Line is looking to offer this service to its users.
The company aims to become first globally to offer such a service that is competing with WhatApp, Viber, Telegram, Hike, ChatOn, SnaopChat, Skype and others.
Dubbed as platform Unchain, a decentralized application (dApp) platform, very similar to Ethereum but also to China’s NEO and Japan’s Cardano will create an ecosystem where users are rewarded in tokens for their contributions to the network.
The company has recently signed an agreement with and Icon, South Korea’s version of the open-source blockchain platform Ethereum.
Line currently has over 215 million users globally and is very popular especially in Thailand, where it is now the number one messaging service.
The company is operated by Line Corporation, a Japanese subsidiary of the South Korean internet search giant Naver Corp also said that the roll out will be in a phase wise, a prototype will be developed and after looking at the success, it will be rolled out to all users.
Line believes that, if this works, they can make inroads in other countries, such as India and China, where WhatsApp is a leader and WeChat respectively.
Icon is a decentralized application (dApp) platform will enables users to develop and deploy dApps across its blockchain platform and boasts a number of performance enhancing features it says are better than Ethereum, that now stands as the industry standard.
The joint venture, announced with Icon aims to develop various dApp services while building synergies with Icon to expand the blockchain ecosystem.
Icon in a statement said that the joint venture takes blockchain and decentralization another step closer to being a part of our everyday lives. This joint venture with Line is expected to connect significantly more users and dApps to the Icon network, bringing us that much closer to a ‘Hyperconnected World’.
